Topeka, KS : Officer hurt in collision in south KC on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

Police were investigating separate wrecks that injured an officer and a pedestrian Tuesday in south Kansas City.

The first wreck was reported about 4:50 p.m. near Bannister and Raytown roads. A Kansas City police officer was injured in the incident.

According to a police spokeswoman, the officer was traveling west on Bannister Road, turning south onto Raytown Road in the middle of a left turn when a car struck the right, rear side of the officer’s Crown Victoria.

The second car had been traveling east on Bannister Road, said Kansas City Police Sgt. Kari Thompson.After hitting the officer’s car, the momentum of the second car sent it farther east, off the roadway, and into a gas main and chain-link fence.

The officer was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

The driver of the second car complained of pain to her neck and wrist but refused medical attention on the scene, Thompson said.

Missouri Gas Energy repaired the gas main leak while emergency personnel investigated the crash.
