Austin, TX : Texas A&M senior dies after high-speed car crash in Bryan on Wednesday, February 15th 2017
A 23-year-old Texas A&M senior was killed early Wednesday after a high-speed crash, according to police.
Ross Travis Lightfoot, 23, a senior computer engineering major from Silsbee, was driving east along Villa Maria Road around 1:30 a.m., Bryan police said. While in the 200 block of West Villa Maria Road, which is just west of South College Avenue across from the Bryan Golf Course, Lightfoot's pickup crossed the center lane and struck the side of a pickup traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the second pickup was treated for minor injuries. Lightfoot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bryan police say Lightfoot was driving at a high rate of speed, which was a factor in the accident.
The driver of the second truck has not been cited. The accident remains under investigation.
Lightfoot was a 2012 graduate of Silsbee High School near Beaumont. Classmates, friends and family posted memories and statements of disbelief on social media Wednesday.
"A sad, sad day in Silsbee," read a message posted on the "official Facebook" for the Silsbee Tigers. "Prayers to the family & friends of C/O 2012 Silsbee Graduate and Texas A&M student Ross Lightfoot, who unfortunately passed away this morning."
