GOSHEN, IN : Elkhart teen dies in 3-car collision near Goshen on Sunday, March 19th 2017
A teenager died in a three-car crash at the intersection of Indiana 19 and County Road 36 Sunday night, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
In a statement Monday, deputies from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said Breckin Hamby, 17, of Elkhart, died at the scene. Deputies said Hamby was one of three passengers in a Toyota Camry driven by Melissa Delgado, 17, of Elkhart. Delgado and two other passengers — Stepheni M. Gongwer, 17, of Elkhart, and Nicolas Crail, 17, of Elkhart — were taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.
Joey Sword, 38, of Pikeville, Ky., who drove a different car involved in the crash also had a complaint of pain.
Police say the crash occurred just before 7:45 p.m., when a 2003 GMC Sierra truck, traveling south on Indiana 19, collided with the back left side of the silver Toyota Camry with the three passengers as the Camry was traveling eastbound through the intersection.
The GMC Sierra truck then drifted west and sideswiped a 2016 Dodge Ram pick-up truck which was traveling north on Indiana 19 and approaching County Road 36. Sword was unable to stop in time and the front his of truck hit the passenger side of the Camry. The driver of the Sierra, Lynn Loucks, 62, of Elkhart, was not injured.
The crash is being investigated by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Crash Investigation Team.
