San Antonio, TX : SAPD officer injured after 3-car crash shuts down portion of Interstate 35 on Southwest Side on Tuesday, July 19, 2016
The northbound lanes of Interstate 35 were completely shut down for about an hour Tuesday on the Southwest Side after a crash involving a San Antonio Police Department SUV, a CPS truck and one other car.
Police officers at the scene said a woman driving the car got cut off by another driver around 11:30 a.m. as she headed north on the interstate over Southwest Military Drive and struck the CPS truck, which was merging. The impact caused the CPS truck to veer into the shoulder and strike a SAPD cruiser in which a female officer was running radar.
The officer was loaded into an ambulance at the scene on a stretcher and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The driver of the car was also being treated in an ambulance at the scene and she is expected to be hospitalized, as well.
The highway re-opened around 12:30 p.m. All traffic is being pushed onto Southwest Military Drive while crews work to clear the scene.
