An Arkansas man was seriously injured after his semi hit a truck Thursday near Leeds, N.D., a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.

Edward Kelly Jr., 47, was driving a 2014 International tractor-trailer west on U.S. Highway 2 just before 5 p.m., according to the Patrol. Brian Bjerke, 62, was driving a 1972 Chevrolet straight truck west in the outside lane on Highway 2. The release said he'd just turned onto the highway from 62nd Avenue Northeast.

Kelly was driving faster than Bjerke but did not pass him, according to the Patrol. He hit the back passenger side of the truck and drove into the ditch. Bjerke's truck stopped in the median.

Kelly, of Dardanelle, Ark., was brought to a Devils Lake hospital then flown to Grand Forks' Altru Hospital for serious injuries, the release said. Bjerke, of Leeds, was also injured, the report said.
