Chiefland, FL : Man riding mower on US 19 killed in collision Saturday, September 24, 2016
A man died of injuries sustained when the riding mower he was driving in a southbound lane of U.S. 19 was impaled on the front of an automobile at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report.
Glenn Normal Wheeler, 71, of Trenton, was on a 2009 John Deere mower at U.S. 19 and Northwest 164th Street in Chiefland when a 1968 Pontiac Firebird traveling in the same direction rear-ended the mower, which became stuck on the front of the car.
The Firebird’s driver, Esther Rebekah Simpson, 38, of Chiefland, steered the vehicles to a controlled stop onto the grassy shoulder, where Wheeler fell off the mower.
Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene. Results of a blood alcohol test on Wheeler are pending, according to the report.
