VERNON, NY : Driver ticketed in Vernon crash on Saturday, December 17th 2016

A driver was sent to the hospital and ticketed in a crash in which closed a road for 1-1/2 hours Saturday, state police.

At about 4:25 p.m., Oneida-based state police responded to a one-car personal accident on Town Line Road after Melody M. Mumford, 40, of Verona, was westbound when she lost control on the slush-covered pavement and exited the south side of the roadway, officials said.

The vehicle struck a ditch and then sheared off a utility pole, causing phone and cable lines to drop across the roadway, police said.

Mumford was transported by Vineall Ambulance to Oneida Healthcare for evaluation.

Fire personnel from Vernon and Verona fire departments provided traffic control while the road was closed for approximately 1-1/2 hours while waiting for crews from National Grid and Verizon to respond to remove the wires and repair the pole.

Mumford was issued a traffic ticket for failure to keep right returnable in the Town of Vernon Court, police said.
