Albany, IL : Motorcyclist dead after deer collision near Whiteside County Friday afternoon on June 27, 2014

A Mount Sterling, Illinois man is dead after crashing his motorcycle at the Rock Island-Whiteside County line near Albany, Friday afternoon. The RI Sheriff's Department reported a deer ran into the path of a 52-year-old driving a 2013 Harley Davison northbound on Route 84. The rider attempted to brake but was unable to avoid striking the deer. He was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities are witholding the name of the man until notification of family members. The incident remains under investigation by the RI County Sheriff's Department.

Fire and ambulance squads from Whiteside County assisted in the incident, which occurred at approximately 1:51 p.m. this afternoon. Authorities shut down north and southbound portions of Route 84, redirecting traffic around a mile stretch of the highway.
