PILGER, NE : A three-vehicle accident on Highway 275 on Tuesday, 22nd May 2018
One person was transported for serious but non-life-threatening injuries suffered in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on Highway 275 about six miles east of here.
Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said a flatbed semi-trailer was driving west, and another semi was driving east at about 2:30 p.m.
The eastbound truck was slowing to turn onto 568 Avenue and was being followed by an eastbound SUV driven by Paul Weber, 56, of Minnesota. Weber was slowing for the turning semi and was struck from behind by a pickup driven by Jeffrey Yosten, 46, of Norfolk.
That impact forced the SUV across the center line into the path of the westbound semi driven by Matthew Elmore, 35, of Oklahoma, Unger said.
Weber was extricated from his wreckage and taken to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk with serious injuries.
Elmore was also transported to Faith Regional health Services with a leg injury. Yosten and his teenage son were not injured, the sheriff said.
The wreckage completely closed the highway for more than an hour as the scene was cleared and investigated. Seatbelts were in use by all occupants and that along with airbag deployment is considered a major factor in lessening injuries, Unger said.
Pilger and Stanton Fire and Rescue responded, along with Stanton County Emergency Management.
