Concord , NC : 23- Years old Devon Hemmingway killed and Driver charged after single car crash turned fatal on Saturday , June 13th 2015

The driver of a Chevrolet Monte Carlo has been charged after a single car crash turned fatal.

According to the Concord police, officers responded to the crash site on Central Heights Drive around 1:35 a.m.

Police say Steve Devon Sankar, 24, from Concord was driving the Monte Carlo on Central Heights Drive and ran off the road past the Kiser Woods Driver intersection. The car hit a tree stump and rolled over.

The front seat passenger, Devon Hemmingway, 23, was reportedly ejected from the vehicle. Hemmingway was taken to Carolinas Medical Center's Northeast Campus where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Sankar had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as well to be treated. Upon his release from the hospital, Sankar was charged with one felony count of death by motor vehicle, a count of careless and reckless driving, and a count of disorderly conduct.
