Kingston, PA : One man dead in crash on Wyoming Ave. in Kingston Wednesday October 5 2016
One man died in a two-vehicle accident on Wyoming Avenue in Kingston on Wednesday evening.
The accident happened at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday just south of Price Street, near Dairy Queen, according to Kingston police.
A southbound Cadillac coupe rear-ended a southbound Hyundai sport utility vehicle, then rolled over several times, crossed the north travel lanes onto the east sidewalk and came to rest in front of the DLP law office at 459 Wyoming Ave., according to police and witnesses.
The driver of the Cadillac died at the scene, according to Kingston police Chief Michael Krzywicki. The man’s name was not released pending notification of his next of kin. He appeared to be in his late 40s, Krzywicki said.
A female passenger in the Cadillac was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to Krzywicki.
The two occupants of the Hyundai SUV were not seriously hurt, Krzywicki said.
Witnesses said the Cadillac appeared to speed up abruptly just before the impact with the Hyundai.
Rob Stitzer said he was “about three cars south” of the accident as he drove north on Wyoming Avenue.
“I just saw a Cadillac and car parts flying through the air,” he said.
Stitzer said that by the time he pulled over, a police officer who was already at the scene told him to turn around.
A Kingston police officer witnessed the aftermath of the accident, which happened just south of the Kingston police station, Krzywicki said.
A portion of Wyoming Avenue between Pierce and Butler streets was closed for several hours.
Shattered glass lay strewn across the sidewalk near the spot where the Cadillac came to rest. The car appeared to be severely damaged, with part of the roof caved in. Street signs were knocked down on both sides of the road, and car debris spread from the roadway onto the west sidewalk.
Police continue to investigate, Krzywicki said.
