Janesville,WI : Alcohol may have been factor in triple-fatal crash on February, Thursday 8th 2018
The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating if alcohol played a role in a January crash that killed three Beloit men.
On Jan. 21, a sport utility vehicle driving south on Interstate 43 near County J slowed down or stopped partially in the right lane. A semitrailer truck struck the SUV’s rear and overturned.
Its cab came to rest in the right-hand ditch, and its trailer sprawled across the right southbound lane.
A southbound pickup truck struck the trailer soon afterward. Its three male occupants—Delandis J. McKinney, Cecilio Rodriguez Jr. and Hesham M. Abdelrahim, all 26 and from Beloit—were killed.
The semi driver was not seriously injured.
The three female occupants in the SUV— Kiyoko Monet Becker, 25; Crystal D. Singleton, 24; and Shakela Jewell Rena Mosley, 25, all of Beloit—suffered serious injuries, according to recent reports.
Mosley suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to UW Hospital in Madison. Becker and Singleton were taken to Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, according to the reports.
State Patrol interviews with Singleton and Mosley and video footage show evidence that Becker was intoxicated and was driving the SUV before the crash, according to the reports.
The State Patrol is investigating possible charges of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, according to the reports.
Both Singleton and Mosley told a state trooper that Becker was the SUV’s driver. Mosley said Becker drank alcohol in the vehicle in a Beloit liquor store parking lot the night of the crash. Mosley and Singleton said they saw Becker drinking at the Show Palace Gentlemen’s Club in Darien, the reports read.
Singleton said she bought Becker drinks at the club and remembered that Becker’s speech was slurred.
Singleton took a drink away from Becker because she thought Becker was drunk, she told the trooper in the reports.
