Columbus,OH : Man walking in road killed in Springfield Township crash on Thursday, 3rd May 2018

A pedestrian died after being struck while walking on the side of John Gray Road in Springfield Township on Thursday night, police said.

Around 9 p.m., Springfield Township and Fairfield Police departments were dispatched to the 2000 block of John Gray Road for a male subject walking in the roadway, police said.

Dewey Colebank, 46, with no last known address, had been struck by a passing vehicle traveling eastbound on the road, police said.

Police said Fairfield EMS personnel tended to Colebank, but he succumbed to his injuries.

"The driver of the striking vehicle instantly stopped and remained on scene. At this point in the investigation, it is unclear why Mr. Colebank was walking in the roadway and if he was under the influence," a statement from Springfield Township police said.

Police said charges against the driver are not likely.

Springfield Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is currently investigating this fatality and asks anyone with information regarding this crash to call 513-729-1300.
