Ridgecrest, CA : 1 injured following vehicle vs pedestrian collision incident on April, Friday 7th 2017

A man in a wheelchair was injured Friday morning on South China Lake Boulevard near Upjohn Avenue after being struck by a pick-up truck following a pedestrian vs vehicle incident.

According to Ridgecrest Police Sgt. Mike Atkins, the pedestrian was heading the wrong way on China Lake Boulevard as the driver of a Toyota Tundra was pulling out of the driveway of the Golden Ox restaurant, and hit the wheelchair-bound man.

The wheelchair was caught under the Tacoma’s rear passenger side wheel well, requiring Kern County firefighters to use airbags to dislodge it in order to move the vehicle in order to move the vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported by Liberty Ambulance for treatment of unknown level of injuries.

Atkins said the matter is still under investigation.
