Lynchburg, VA : Four people injured after a two-car crash on U.S. 460 in Campbell County on Thursday, September 8, 2016

Four people were taken to Lynchburg General Hospital on Thursday after a two-car crash backed up traffic on U.S. 460 in Campbell County.

The crash occurred about 5:15 p.m., according to Virginia State Police.

Trooper T.M. Wertz said a 2012 Dodge Caravan, driven by 70-year-old Bertha Vivian Marshall of Gladys, was pulling out into the median of U.S. 460 from Doss Road when the van was struck by a 2000 Nissan Altima headed east. Wertz said the Dodge Caravan spun into the left hand eastbound lane while the Nissan Altima went into the median.

Traffic was backed up as far back as Scotts Farm Road as crews worked to clear the crash.

Marshall was charged with failure to yield while the Altima’s driver, Frank Terrell Hudson III, 45, of Lynchburg, was charged with driving with an open container.

Wertz said the crash was not alcohol related.

Louis Carter Marshall, 81, and a 5-year-old passenger in the Dodge had serious, but non-life threatening injuries. All involved in the crash were taken to Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
