Boonville, IN : Evansville woman injured after vehicle struck Interstate 64 Tuesday morning August 11th 2015
An Evansville woman was “seriously” injured after her sport- utility vehicle struck the back of a semi on Interstate 64 Tuesday morning in Warrick County.
Emergency crews had to cut Kristin Schaefer, 47, from her 2013 Honda CRV, and she was then flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville for treatment, officials said.
Schaefer was listed in "serious" condition as of Tuesday night, according to St. Mary's.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to the Warrick County Sheriff’s office. There is no indication in the sheriff’s office news release issued Tuesday afternoon that the driver of the semi, identified as 49-year-old Leslie Canary Jr. of Rockport, Indiana, was injured in the crash.
The crash, which happened at about 11:05 a.m., shut down both lanes of westbound traffic on the interstate near mile-marker 32 for a time so firefighters from Elberfeld, Haubstadt and Scott Township could cut Schaefer from her vehicle.
Indiana State Police and officers from the conservation office also assisted sheriff’s deputies investigating the crash.
The crash occurred about an hour after an Indiana Department of Transportation truck caught fire just west of the crash site on the interstate in Gibson County. No one was injured in that incident, which also briefly affected westbound traffic on the interstate Tuesday morning.
