Rehoboth, DE : A Laurel man was killed in a motorcycle accident on April, Thursday 20th 2017
A Laurel man was killed in a motorcycle accident west of Georgetown April 20.
The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of West Piney Grove and East Trap Pond roads shortly after 11 a.m., said Sgt. Richard Bratz of the Delaware State Police.
Yajira Quintana-Tinoco, 31, of Seaford, was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer east on Piney Grove Road when she stopped at the stop sign for West Piney Grove, but failed to remain stopped and drove into the path of 62-year-old Howard A. Scheweitzer, who was on a 2003 Harley Davidson heading north on East Trap Pond Road.
Scheweitzer was unable to avoid the collision and the motorcycle crashed into the front right of the Explorer. Scheweitzer, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown off the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Yajira Quintana-Tinoco and two juvenile passengers were uninjured, Bratz said, and impairment is not a consideration in an ongoing investigation. He said Quintana-Tinoco has been charged with death by motor vehicle and failing to remained stopped, and was released on an unsecured bond.
The intersection of East Trap Pond and Piney Grove roads was closed for about 2.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared, Bratz said.
