Orange City,FL : 3 injured in crash involving trooper on June, Monday 12th 2017

Three people were injured Monday in a crash involving a Florida Highway Patrol trooper and his police dog on State Road 528 in Orange County, authorities said.

The crash happened about 2:45 p.m. as the trooper was trying to pull over a car that was making an illegal U-turn, said Sgt. Kim Montes, an agency spokeswoman.

Trooper Edy Rivera, 38, was heading west with Piet, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois, in a crate in the back seat when the driver of a Honda Accord in front of him, Howard Younce, 60, tried to make a U-turn in the median, Montes said.

Rivera turned on his emergency lights to pull over Younce, a report states.

That’s when a Ford Mustang plowed into the back of his sport utility vehicle, causing Rivera to hit Younce’s car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Mustang, Michelle Mitchell, 20, and Rivera had minor injuries, Montes said. Piet was not hurt.

Younce was seriously injured and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Mitchell was ticketed on a charge of failure to use due care. Younce was ticketed on a charge of making an illegal U-turn, troopers said.

S.R. 528 is also known as the BeachLine Expressway.
