Yamhill, OR : Semi-truck rollover kills driver on Highway 47 north of Yamhill Thursday on June 12, 2014
The driver of a commercial truck carrying hundreds of gallons of syrup died Thursday after he rolled his truck onto its side.
According to Oregon State Police, the man was driving south on Highway 47 near milepost 34 just north of Yamhill at about 11 a.m. when he couldn’t negotiate a curve and drove off the road. He rolled his tractor-trailer onto its side in a grassy field.
The driver’s name has not yet been released, pending the notification of family.
OSP spokesman Lt. Gregg Hastings said the man was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
He said some of the hundreds of gallons of syrup the driver was transporting spilled onto the field.
The highway at the scene of the crash was closed while police investigated. It reopened around 4:30 p.m.
