Three local men were injured, two of them seriously, in a head-on crash early Monday morning on Route 150 in Beech Creek Township.
Daniel P. Burfield, 58, of Beech Creek, was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with injuries suffered in the 5:26 a.m. collision.
And Chance Foltz, 22, of Mill Hall, was still being treated in the emergency room at Geisinger on Monday afternoon, officials there said.
Foltz was a passenger in a 1986 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Spencer M. Page, 18, of Mill Hall.
Burfield was the operator of the other vehicle, a 1997 Ford Ranger.
Page was southbound on Route 150 in heavy fog when he attempted to overtake a vehicle traveling in front of him, state police said. As he attempted to pass the vehicle he struck the northbound Burfield truck head-on, police said.
Burfield had to be extricated from the vehicle on scene and was transported to Geisinger Trauma Center in Danville.
Both Foltz and Page were taken to area faciliaties with what police called moderate to severe injuries. Foltz was then transferred to Geisinger.
One lane of Route 150 was closed for about two hours until the wreckage was cleared. The highway reopened for travel at 10:30 a.m., police said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scen.
PSP CARS Unit assisted local troopers on scene with reconstruction of the accident. Also assiting at the scene were Beech Creek Fire and EMS, Citizen Hose Station 6 of Lock Haven and Martin Motors.
State police are attempting to locate the driver of the vehicle that Page was attempting to pass in an attempt to further the investigation. Anyone with information of the driver of the vehicle is asked to call police at 570-726-6000.
The investigation is continuing, police said.
Sunday night crash
On Sunday night, a female driver was transported to Altoona Medical Center with serious injuries following a one-car accident at 8:53 p.m. Sunday at 11376 Coudersport Pike, state police at Lamar said.
The woman was traveling alone and trapped in her car for some time, according to police.
Responding to the crash were fire volunteers from Haneyville, Dunnstown, Lock Haven and Woolrich.
Further details of this accident, including the name of the driver, were not available at press time last night.
