Litchfield,IL : Texas couple killed in crash on I-55 near Litchfield, Ill., after van sideswiped on August, Saturday 26th 2017

Two people from Carrollton, Texas, were killed in a crash early Saturday on Interstate 55 near Litchfield after their van was sideswiped by another vehicle.

Luis Paulet, 49, and passenger Liz Alejo Mora de Paulet, 31, were ejected and pronounced dead on the scene by the Montgomery County coroner.

Both vehicles were northbound around 2:20 a.m. when a car driven by Caleb Countryman, 21, of Springfield, Ill., sideswiped Paulet's vehicle, police said.

The roadway was closed for about five and a half hours. The crash is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
