Dunnellon man was killed when he drove off the Interstate 75
A Dunnellon man was killed Monday morning when he drove off the Interstate 75 access road in Riverview and his vehicle struck a concrete pillar under the Selmon Expressway overpass.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the unidentified 40-year-old man was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on the I-75 access road from U.S. 301 just after 7 a.m., when he drove onto the left shoulder and onto the grass median.
He then struck a concrete pillar supporting the overpass head-on, the patrol said.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, the patrol said.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, a patrol report said.
