A man was killed Tuesday when police said he ran his car into the back of a tractor-trailer on U.S. 29 at the Interstate 64 interchange.Daniel J. Tokarski, 72, of Hardy, was driving a small Mazda sport utility vehicle northbound on U.S. 29 when he crashed into a tractor-trailer, causing his vehicle to flip on its side and land in the median, according to police.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was waiting in the left turn lane, attempting to enter I-64 westbound and was not injured in the crash.
The passenger in the SUV was transported to the University of Virginia Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Traffic on U.S. 29 was slowed down from noon to 4:30 p.m. while the Albemarle County Police Department’s crash reconstruction team investigated the incident.
Tuesday’s fatal wreck was the first in Albemarle in 2018.
