Logan, UT : Man dead after Logan Canyon crash near Ricks Spring on Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2016

A 67-year-old man was found lying injured on the side of the highway in Logan Canyon on Sunday afternoon a short time after a motorcycle crash, and he died a short time later.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley, the victim reportedly took his helmet off and crawled from the embankment where he had crashed up to the roadway, a distance of about 15-20 feet.

Within a short time he was spotted by another driver in the canyon who stopped to help. The two individuals spoke briefly before the Good Samaritan went to get water for the injured man.

When he returned, the victim collapsed; CPR was initiated right away and continued for 45 minutes, but when medical personnel arrived on scene, there was no pulse.

Based on evidence at the scene, Brenchley said it appears the man on the motorcycle apparently failed to negotiate a sharp curve north of Ricks Spring.

The road curves to the left, but the motorcycle continued off the right side of the road, and it appears he did not hit the brakes until he was two or three feet into the dirt, Brenchley said.

The man lives outside of Cache Valley and will not be identified until his family has been notified.
