Fairfield, CA : Police officer hospitalized after serious crash in Fairfield on Monday afternoon, November 10, 2014
A Fairfield police officer was taken to the hospital by ambulance after her car crashed into a tree off Air Base Parkway Monday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 4 p.m. according to Fairfield police, when the officer was responding to a call and collided with a truck on eastbound Air Base Parkway just before the North Texas Street off-ramp. After colliding with the truck, the patrol car left the roadway and smashed into a tree.
The Fairfield Fire Department worked to extricate the officer from the car and she was transported by ambulance to NorthBay Medical Center about an hour after the collision with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Matt Thomas.
Thomas said the driver of the truck stopped and there was no indication of any criminal behavior on that driver's part.
Other than her gender, the officer has not been identified.
Eastbound Air Base Parkway was closed from Heath Drive to Dover Avenue as police investigated and cleared the crash. Part of Alaska Avenue near the crash scene was later blocked off after the officer was transported from the scene.
The Air Base Parkway off-ramp on eastbound Interstate 80 was also blocked by CalTrans.
Officials expected the roadways to remain closed through 9 p.m.
