Park Rapids,MN : Park Rapids man dies in Mahnomen County crash on May, Friday 18th 2018
A head-on collision south of Mahnomen claimed the life of a Park Rapids man and seriously injured his passenger early Friday morning.
A freightliner tractor trailer was traveling south on Highway 59 when a Nissan Altima traveling northbound crossed the centerline in the southbound lanes and collided with the semi-tractor trailer, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Lucas D. Pike, 36, of Park Rapids was driving the 2003 Nissan and died as a result of the collision. Michelle M. Pike, 35, of Menahga was the passenger and suffered serious injuries, according to the State Patrol report. The report noted Lucas Pike was wearing a seatbelt and Michelle Pike was not, and both airbags did deploy.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
The accident occurred about 2:15 a.m. on the undivided Highway 59 south of Mahnomen.
The driver of the tractor trailer was Derek J. Clark, 44, of Greenbush. He was transported to Detroit Lakes for non-life threatening injuries. Lucas Pike was transported to a Grand Forks hospital where he died.
Michelle Pike was transported to a Fargo hospital with serious injuries.
