Portsmouth, VA : One person killed and two others injured in a car accident on Interstate 264 in Portsmouth on Sunday, April 3, 2016

A 23-year-old woman died, and at least two other people were seriously injured in an early morning crash on I-264 in Portsmouth.

According to Virginia State Police spokesperson SGT. Michelle Anaya, this accident happened at around 1:35 a.m. A 2001 Ford Focus was traveling east on Interstate 264 near Greenwood Drive when the driver tried to avoid another vehicle, lost control, and overturned.

Three passengers in the rear seat were ejected in the crash. 23-year-old Crystal Floydd of Portsmouth was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passengers were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what were described as "major" injuries.

The driver of the car was identified by police as 23-year-old Andrew Wayne Lovell. He's been charged with DUI and felony involuntary manslaughter.

Lowell and Floydd were listed as living at the same address.

Alcohol was a factor in the crash and safety belts were not used, according to Anaya.

This was one of two accidents that happened in the same vicinity on I-264 - both near Exit 2 - the Greenwood Dr. Exit, Anaya said. Details of the second accident weren't provided, but Anaya said that the two accidents resulted in Eastbound 264 west of Exit 2 being closed at approximately 1:57 a.m. for a period of time.
