MANHATTAN, KS : Wamego man killed in crash on hwy 24 near Manhattan on Thursday, August 17, 2017

A crash Thursday afternoon on US highway 24 between two vehicles was fatal.

The driver of the first vehicle, Francis Whitney, 78, was killed when he failed to stop at a stop sign on Levee Drive and crashed into the second car as it was heading down highway 24.

Both vehicles came to rest in the left lane of westbound 24, but the second driver’s injuries were not serious, and he was not taken to a hospital.

The crash was reported at 1:15 p.m. and briefly shut down eastbound U.S. 24 near Levee Drive.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
