Kosciusko County, IN : 2 hurt in Kosciusko off-road-vehicle accident on Friday, 26th April 2019
A man and a girl were injured Wednesday night in an off-road-vehicle accident in Kosciusko County, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said today.
Kevin Deardorff, 58, of Claypool was operating an off-road vehicle about 7:30 p.m. on private property with a juvenile girl passenger when he lost control after cresting a hill at a high rate of speed, conservation officers said in a statement.
They said the vehicle struck an embankment, rolled over and ejected both occupants. The passenger suffered minor injuries and ran back to her parents, who contacted 911.
Deardorff complained of abdominal and chest pain and was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment. The passenger was treated at the scene and taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital as a precaution.
The cause of the accident was determined to be operating at speeds unsafe for terrain conditions, conservation officers said. Neither victim was wearing a helmet.
