Austin, TX : 2 injured in crash involving Silsbee school bus on Thursday, 11th March 2021

A Silsbee ISD school bus was involved in a multicar crash Thursday morning, but authorities said no students had boarded at the time.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reports that two people required transportation to a hospital, but not the bus driver.

The incident occurred about 6:30 a.m. and involved a stopped vehicle that was waiting for the bus to pick up kids, a DPS spokeswoman said. The bus was headed northbound on FM 92 in Hardin County, near the Tyler County line.

“With flashing stop lights activated, the school bus was stopped waiting for children to board the bus,” Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a statement. “A 2009 Toyota pickup truck was traveling southbound on FM 92 followed by a 2014 Dodge passenger vehicle. The driver of the Toyota stopped for the school bus and was rear-ended by the Dodge. The impact caused the Dodge and the Toyota to across into the northbound traffic lane, striking the school bus.
