Milwaukee,WI : Data shows high crash areas in city correspond with high crime areas on may, Thursday 25th 2017
The Milwaukee Police Department is using data to hopefully cut down on traffic-related deaths.
MPD's traffic-enforcement plan is through Data-Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety (DDACTS), and what it's done in Milwaukee is identify areas that have a high number of crashes, which actually go hand-in-hand with high crime hot spots.
Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer. More cars will be on the road, and police want to minimize problems.
Flynn said car thefts and carjackings are down this year compared with the same time last year, but traffic deaths are up.
"We've had 31 fatalities related to car accidents so far this year," said Chief Ed Flynn. "Last year at this time the total was 20."
