DICKSON, TN : 72-year-old pedestrian hit, killed by sanitation truck on Highway 46 in Dickson on Tuesday, 19th November 2024
Last week, officers with the Dickson Police Department (DPD) responded to reports of a person hit and killed on Highway 46.
DPD reports 72-year-old Everett Sykes was struck by a sanitation truck while crossing the highway in the area of Waffle House at about 4:26 a.m.
Police said Sykes' last known address was a shelter in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and he is believed to have been homeless and living in the Dickson area. The driver of the sanitation truck told officers he was traveling southbound on Highway 46 at about 30-35 mph when he saw the pedestrian wearing dark clothes with a walker crossing the highway but was unable to avoid hitting him.
DPD reports the victim was wearing black jogging pants and a black jacket and a walker with other personal items being found in the roadway. Sykes was found unresponsive at the scene of the crash.
