Fritz, 78, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to a news release from the Grundy County coroner's office. Police said Fritz ran into the rear of a parked semitractor-trailer around 3:25 p.m.The semitrailer was halfway on the shoulder and the roadway of the westbound approach ramp at Brisbin Road and I-80. Illinois State Police ticketed the driver of the semitrailer, Jeffrey Seefeldt, 42, of Davenport, Iowa, for improper parking.Police said Seefeldt had stopped on the ramp after blowing a tire. Seefeldt placed warning triangles behind his vehicle, but they were not far enough away from the semitrailer, police said.Fritz farmed land west of Illinois Route 59 and north of the DuPage River in Plainfield. Plainfield Mayor Mike Collins described Fritz as a "fixture" of the village.
