Portland, OR : Man dies after crash with garbage truck in Northeast Portland on Wednesday morning, Aug 19, 2015

A driver died early Wednesday morning after crashing a passenger car into the back of a garbage truck on Northeast Prescott Street in Portland.

Officers were called out to Northeast 47th and Prescott around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on reports of a serious injury crash.

The car's driver, a man in his 40's, suffered traumatic injuries in the crash. Medical staff pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police at the scene said the car was likely speeding when it collided with the Waste Management truck. Portland's Major Crash Team hasn't confirmed what led up to the crash.

The truck's driver wasn't hurt in the crash, police said.

Prescott Street will likely be closed from 47th to 49th Avenues while officers investigate the crash.
