Macon, GA : 47-year-old woman killed in pedestrian accident on Tuesday, January 27, 2015

A Macon woman, crossing the street with her adult son, was hit by a car and died Tuesday night.

Martha Ard, 47, of Worsham Avenue was trying to get across the juncture of Pio Nono Avenue, Broadway and Houston Avenue at before 8:30 p.m., said Bibb County Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.

“He made it across, but unfortunately she didn’t,” Miley said.

Ard was pronounced dead at 9:03 p.m. in the emergency room at Medical Center, Navicent Health, he said.

A 1999 Oldsmobile 88, driven by an 82-year-old Macon man, was coming north through the green light from Ga. 247 onto Houston Avenue as Ard and her son, 25-year-old Christopher Greene, were crossing at Pio Nono from the BP gas station, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Once Ard stepped off the curb of a raised island separating the lanes, she was hit, deputies said.

No charges have been filed, but the accident is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the accident is urged to call 751-7500 and leave a message for the on-call investigator.
