Southwick, MA : 91-year-old Granby man killed in a one-car crash on Rt. 10 in Southwick on Monday, January 5, 2015
State and local police are investigating the cause of a deadly accident near 25 College Highway in Southwick that happened Monday afternoon.
State Police Sgt. Thomas Ryan said the fatal accident investigation is being led by Southwick Police. “With regard to the fatal [accident], State Police are assisting in accident reconstruction,” Ryan said.
Traffic was rerouted until around 5:00 p.m., according to reports. The state medical examiner arrived on scene shortly before 4:00 p.m. to remove the body. Although police have the accident scene isolated, a witness believes the vehicle involved has Connecticut plates.
According to the Southwick Police Department, they responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of 26 College Highway around 1:00 p.m. and the initial investigation showed that the involved vehicle was travelling south on Rt. 10 when it departed the travelled portion of the road, struck a large rock and flipped over.
The driver involved was found to be dead at the scene. He was identified as 91-year-old William T. Burgess of Granby, Conn.
The cause of this collision is currently under investigation by the Southwick Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Accident and Reconstruction Section. Officer Miles is the Southwick investigating Officer.
