Sacramento,CA : Police motorcyclist injured in crash with car along Tour Down Under route on January, Wednesday 17th 2018
The crash happened just before midday in Gumeracha, at the intersection of Albert Street and John Fisher Avenue.
The officer was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the car was transferred to the Gumeracha hospital with minor injuries.
Police said the driver, a 53-year-old freelance photographer, was later charged with driving without due care and would face an Adelaide court on Monday.
The 128-kilometre TDU stage from Norwood to Uraidla was won by road racing world champion Peter Sagan, who secured the overall lead in the race with a brilliant sprint finish.
Not known for his climbing, Sagan held on during the ride up Norton Summit in temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius.
Sagan was initially too frazzled to comment after the race, gulping from his water bottle, drying his face with a towel and desperate to get some calories back into his body.
But after a quick bite to eat he said despite the searing heat, it was not the hottest day he had ridden on.
"A stage in Palm Springs [during the Tour of California] — two guys from the peloton just fell down from the bicycles," he said.
Sagan beat Daryl Impey by half a bike length with Luis Leon Sanchez third.
The Slovak rider leads the race by just two seconds with two stages to go.
