Passenger dies in crash near Tampa Florida
A 32-year-old man from The Villages was killed early Monday when the driver of a car he was riding in ran a red light, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Brian Costello was a passenger in a 2013 Kia sedan driven by 40-year-old Chad Prilliman of Wildwood. The pair were headed north around 2:40 a.m. on the I-4 exit ramp to MLK Boulevard at the same time a 2006 Nissan sport utility vehicle was headed west on MLK, troopers said.Prilliman drove through a red traffic light at the intersection and crossed into the path of the SUV. The SUV driver, Ashley Barrett, 30, of Tampa tried to steer out of the way but collided with the passenger side of the Kia, the FHP said.Costello suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Prilliman was taken to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Barrett was not injured, troopers said.The crash remains under investigation.
