Parkston,SD : Two injured in crash near Parkston on September, Saturday 23th 2017

Two people sustained minor non-life threatening injuries after their vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle Saturday near Parkston.

At 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, Julius Junior Elam II, 36, of Parkston, was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on 408th Avenue near 274th Street in Parkston. According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, Elam lost control of the vehicle and collided with an unoccupied 2003 Ford Taurus that was facing south on the west shoulder of 408th Avenue. After the collision, both vehicles entered a ditch on the west shoulder.


Elam sustained minor injuries and a 40-year-old male passenger in the Camaro sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. Both were transported to a Parkston hospital. Charges are pending against Elam.

South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Other agencies on scene included Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office and Parkston Ambulance.
