Pensacola, FL : Woman dies after accident involving fleeing suspect on Sunday, January 15th 2017
A Pensacola woman died from injuries sustained in an auto accident with a suspect attempting to flee law enforcement officers.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Alma Lee Hardy, 78, died Sunday at a local hospital after being involved in a multi-car and multi-pedestrian accident on Friday that left nine others injured.
Hardy was traveling west on Blount Street in a 2005 Dodge van at about 3:45 p.m. Friday. As she approached the intersection with North P Street, Hardy's vehicle was hit by a 2014 Chevrolet van being driven north by Michael D. Daniel. At the time, Daniel, 23, was fleeing an Escambia County deputy's unit that had discontinued pursuit, when he failed to observe a stop sign, the report said.
After impact with Hardy's vehicle, Daniel's car left the road, hit a fence, a swing set and four pedestrians who were standing in a yard, and then overturned. According to the report, Daniel fled the scene on foot before being apprehended by Escambia County deputies.
Three passengers in Hardy's van were injured. Richard Hardy, 50, and Tomiki Hardy, 47, were seriously injured and Ricardo Hardy, 56, had minor injuries.
Daniel and his passenger, Jesse Square, 29, also received minor injuries.
Three of the pedestrians — Sonja Hayes, 44, Laquia Redmond, 37, and a 6-year-old — all sustained minor injuries. Martin Hendricks, 63, was seriously injured.
Daniel was charged with at least seven offenses, including reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of a crash.
Others charges are pending a traffic homicide investigation.
