Johnstown, OH : Utica man killed after a crash on US 62 near Johnstown on Friday morning, February 5, 2016

Troopers are investigating a crash near Johnstown that left one person dead.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at about 9:19am, troopers were called to the area of US 62/Johnstown-Utica and Sportsman Club roads on the report of a crash between a semi-truck and a car.

Troopers said a 2006 Chevrolet Impala traveling west on US 62 lost control, traveled left of center and was struck by an eastbound International tractor-trailer.

Charles McNabb, 49, of Utica, was the driver of the Impala and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

McNabb was pronounced dead at the scene. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said McNabb was a 19-year veteran of the county EMS department. He was off duty at the time of the crash.

“This is a time for the DCEMS family to come together, care for one another, and McNabb’s family,” said EMS Assistant Chief Eric Burgess. “We see tragedy every day in our line of work, and when it hits home like this, we are reminded that life can change in an instant.”

The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured in the crash.

According to troopers, excessive speed may have been a factor and McNabb was unrestrained at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
