The woman killed in a western Wisconsin crash late Friday has been identified

Faye E. McCarty, 54, of New Richmond, Wis., was driving a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina on County Highway A in the town of Richmond when she failed to negotiate a curve about a mile south of West Richmond Way, according to the St. Croix County sheriff's office.

The car left the road, went into a ditch and struck a tree before starting on fire.

The sheriff's office responded to the crash about 11:45 p.m. First responders couldn't extricate McCarty from the car because of the fire, the sheriff's office said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was the sixth traffic fatality in the county this year.
