MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY : 2 flown to trauma center after crash in McCracken County on Tuesday, 2nd July 2019

Two people had to be flown to an out-of-state trauma center after a pickup truck crashed in McCracken County, Kentucky, Tuesday evening, the sheriff’s office says.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday on Oaks Road, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department says in a news release. Responders used the Jaws of Life to get the driver, 59-year-old Charles Dempsey, and the passenger, 75-year-old Sharron Fisher, out of the truck. The two were taken from the scene by a Mercy Regional EMS ambulance to a landing zone near Interstate 24 and Husbands Road. From there, the release says, they were flown by helicopter to TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

The sheriff’s office says Dempsey was able to speak at the scene, and he told investigators he thought one of his truck’s tires had a blow out. The out-of-control truck left the road and hit a large tree.
