Riverview, FL : Seventeen middle school students were injured when two school buses collided on Wednesday morning September 10th 2014
More than a dozen middle school students were injured when two school buses collided near Tampa.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's officials say at least 17 students and both bus drivers reported minor injuries. Many of them were taken to Tampa General Hospital Wednesday morning.
Officials say about 50 students were on the buses when the chain-reaction accident occurred. Deputies say a pick-up track pulling a trailer stopped quickly for a passing fire truck. The first school bus stopped behind the truck, but the second school bus wasn't able to stop in time and rear ended the first bus.
The school bus driver will be issued a civil citation for following too closely.
The uninjured students were taken to Eisenhower Middle School on a replacement bus.
