Byron, CA : One person dead after collision between motorcycle and car on the Byron Highway in Contra Costa County early Thursday morning, March 26, 2015

A Pittsburg motorcyclist died after colliding with a car on the Byron Highway in Contra Costa County early Thursday morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The car's driver was hospitalized after the 3:55 a.m. crash just north of Byron Hot Springs Road, CHP spokesman Officer John Fransen said.

The motorcyclist was later identified as 53-year-old Henry Ganther.

Fransen said the motorcyclist was going south on the highway when the front part of his motorcycle collided near the front right side of a Honda Civic.

The CHP did not say immediately whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck. Early reports indicated speed may have been a factor, he said.

The Honda driver went by ambulance to a hospital with minor injuries.
