A father and son from Hedgesville were killed in an early morning collision on Hammonds Mill Road, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Kevin Lee Smith and Kevin Lee Smith Jr. died in the incident that took place at about 5:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of Hammonds Mill Road, near the intersection with Allensville Road, according to a press release. A responding West Virginia State Police trooper discovered the Smiths’ pickup truck off the side of the road with heavy front-end damage. A second pickup, driven by Calvin L. Hartley of Hedgesville, was found on its side about 250 feet away.
Both Smiths were pronounced dead at the scene. Hartley was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment of injuries suffered.
According to West Virginia State Police, accident investigation shows the Smiths’ vehicle crossed the center line while traveling southbound, striking Hartley’s northbound vehicle head-on.
The investigating is ongoing.
