A 16-year-old Butte resident was injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash on Upper Ruby Road Sunday. The teen had to be air-lifted to a Bozeman hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Two teenagers were riding in a side-by-side, a type of ATV, at about 7 p.m. Sunday on Upper Ruby Road, south of Cottonwood Creek Road, said Madison County Sheriff Roger Thompson. The other teenager, a 19-year-old, was speeding, according to Thompson. The driver slid off the road, and the ATV rolled several times. The 16-year-old male was thrown from the vehicle and was reportedly unconscious for about five minutes, Thompson said.
Thompson said the 16-year-old boy complained of severe back and head pain. His condition was stable when he was air-lifted to Bozeman, according to Thompson.
The 19-year-old driver was not injured, but he was cited for careless driving with bodily injury, no helmet, and no seat belt, Thompson said.
