comments Holland father critically injured in SUV crash with 3 daughters
A Holland man remains in critical condition after the SUV he was driving, carrying his three young daughters, crashed on a highway on-ramp.
Stephen Junior Mattias, 31, of Holland, was taken to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital on Saturday, March 29, after the 9:30 p.m. crash on the westbound I-196 on-ramp in Zeeland Township.
Ottawa County Sgt. Greg Rotman said Mattias lost control of the 2001 GMC Envoy on the on-ramp, left the road and rolled the vehicle after hitting a culvert.
Mattias was ejected from the vehicle, Rotman said.
Mattias’ three daughters, ages 9, 8, and 9 months, were in the vehicle and received injuries that were not life-threatening. They were taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids in stable condition. All three were wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation.
