Glenburn, ME : Car hits, kills Glenburn woman crossing road to get mail on Wednesday afternoon, December 17, 2014
Police say a Glenburn woman crossing the street to get her mail has been struck and killed by a passing vehicle.
Maine State Police Lt. Sean Hashey says weather and poor visibility may have been factors in the crash late Wednesday afternoon.
The victim was identified Thursday as 66-year-old Barbara Crossman.
Investigators say it appears that she had parked her vehicle at the end of the road where she lives and was crossing the Pushaw Road to retrieve mail from a bank of mailboxes.
The car that struck her was driven by a man headed toward Bangor. The motorist, who was not injured, told troopers he originally thought he'd run over a deer or another animal, not a person.
