A man running across Interstate 5 in Valencia late Sunday night was struck and killed by a motorist, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.
The victim has only been identifed as male.
About 11:50 p.m. Sunday, a motorist in a 2013 Nissan travelling northbound in the lane next to the fast lane on I-5, north of Rye Canyon Road, struck a man who was on foot, according to a report prepared by CHP Officer T. Pennington.
“The motorist related he was startled by an impact to the left side of his vehicle,” Pennington wrote. “The pedestrian appears to have run into the path of the vehicle, colliding with the driver’s side,” he said.
The impact broke the rear view mirror of the vehicle and shattered the driver’s door glass, Pennington said.
“At this point, the (struck man) has not been identified and he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The driver, identified as Abraham Chavez, 62, of Bakersfield, and his sole passenger Ricardo Chavez, 61, of El Paso, suffered no injuries, Pennington said.
The CHP is investigating.
